My Path Here

I’m the founder of Outbound Financial, I do this job because I love it. I truly enjoy working through complex issues and bringing clients to resolutions they understand and can feel good about.

I launched my career at a public accounting firm in Chicago where I focused on income, estate, and gift tax consulting for multi-millionaires and billionaires. While I loved my clients, colleagues, and the interesting work we were doing, my true passion was in tying everything together. My favorite clients were those that allowed us to dive deeper into their financial lives than tax would allow. These were the ones that would engage in deep discussion about how their estate plan fit together, the goings on of their family owned businesses, what they liked (and didn’t like) about their various investment advisors, and what type of insurance they were utilizing and why, among many other issues.

A few years ago, I also had a revelation about my colleagues. These were professionals that graduated near the top of their classes from great colleges all around the country with degrees in finance and accounting. They were now at the top of their fields, almost all Certified Public Accountants, and extremely competent researchers and problem solvers. Still, many seemed intimidated and stumped by basic personal financial decisions around their own retirement, investments, cash management, and insurance needs. I found that this was the case with many other friends as well. As I started to have meaningful discussions with both colleagues and friends about these topics, I realized how much I loved the process of digging deep into these subjects and making a positive impact on their present emotional wellbeing and financial future. I was hooked!

At some point, I realized that I was spending a decent amount of my limited free time reading about and researching personal financial planning. I decided it was time to take the steps towards becoming certified as a Financial Planner and making this my full-time gig. I thought long and hard about whether to join a larger firm or launch my own. In the end, I decided to put my money where my mouth was, and opt for entrepreneurship which would allow for more flexibility with my personal life, what I worked on, and who my clients would be. That is where you come in!

On a Personal Note

I live in Boulder, Colorado with my wife, Carly. When I’m not happily building Excel workbooks, or reading financial news and investing white papers, you’ll find me enjoying everything that the front range has to offer. I love anything that gets me in the outdoors, traveling, discovering new music, and (most importantly) spending time with my family and friends.
